Review forthcoming on http: This story is intended to be accessible to all, but that said, it does rely a lot on things that happened in the first game while throwing balls up into the bdandon for the second game to catch. I’ve never played Infinity Blade and I’d never read a game to book adaption jnfinity hand, and unlike a lot of readers according to reviews at least I did know going in that this was based on a video game.

Based on the bestselling video game from ChAIR Entertainment and Epic Games, this all-new adventure from acclaimed fantasy author Brandon Sanderson digs deeper into the fantastical world of Infinity Blade, a world of mystery and awakeninv where magic and technology are indistinguishable, and even life and death are not what they seem.

How many fantasy authors, or authors in general, could build a story so well that it pulls me in in such a short time, but blaed maintain that through a longer format? But when Siris somehow succeeds where all those from his bloodline branon have brahdon, he finds himself cast into a much larger world, filled with warriors and thieves, ancient feuds and shifting alliances, Deathless immortals and would-be kings.

So I am not at all surprised that he managed to bring a coherent and basically satisfying story from what must have been some rather sketchy outlines from the game. He orders Isa to leave, but she asks to stay with him, offering to lead him to one of the Deathless who may know the location of the Keeper of Secrets. In typical Sanderson samderson there is a bit of a magic system here and to me it is very impressive.

Sanrerson, you do NOT need to have played the phone games at all to enjoy or understand the story. But despite being written by one of my favorite fantasy authors, I didn’t find anything too impressive I probably would have enjoyed this more if I was familiar with the iOS mobile game, or the Infinity Blade franchise in general.

The banter between Siris and Isa is just so much fun. That’s about it for the story – it’s not terribly complex, not a lot actually happens, and it doesn’t really resolve anything, leaving almost every plot thread open to be resolved in the second game.

Well told story for children Brandon seems to either write for young new readers or for adult fantasy readers. Upon finally obtaining freedom, Siris must unravel plots that seem to make no sense, lead a rebellion with no direction, and fight against the division within his very heart. View all 14 comments. After several days to let Isa hrandon, Siris decided to confront Saydhi’s champions.

Granted it was a huge iPad game, but still never thought I would see big name Sanderson do a book like this. Dec 17, Laura Greenwood rated it really liked it Shelves: Calamity A Reckoners Novel 3 7. Awakening is a shot of concentrated awesome, right in the brain hole.

And yet Sanderson manages to flesh out a 40, word novella from this premise that is sanxerson compelling sadnerson start to finish.

Infinity Blade: Awakening by Brandon Sanderson

Effortless writing that flows without weighty verbosity, he has a knack of painting a scene with words and I felt that the moment I read the Prologue.

Now I really want more! At the same time, it felt not quite long enough to fill in enough backstory details, to flesh out the world a bit more, to explore the different directions Siris can go. Sanderson did very well with character development for such a small book, especially considering that he had his setting and much of his plot dictated to him.

There were parts that felt sanddrson But there were things in the book that struck me as clever, and I would like to attribute them to Sanderson — so I will. Twilight of the Aspects Christie Golden 7. Having recently completed the mammoth Oathbringer and read a couple of his short stories this near-novella format surprised me. Life can kick us when we are down.

January 19, at 2: Character development, world creation, mystery, action – everything Sanderson does so well is found her, and in a mere novella.

The concept is very similar, however, if you read my review of Warbreaker, you’ll see that I was kind of disappointed in it. Effortless writing that flows without weighty verbosity, he has a knack of painting a scene w This was the first time that I’ve read a book based on a video game.

Suspicious of their motives, he summons them brrandon to the throne room. Despite the two maybe clashing in theory, it actually worked really well.

It started a bit on the slow side, but as it picked up steam and more and more of Siris Writing: It’s not so much as a story written on the game itself like Assassin’s Creed but more as a bridge between, i.

This was pretty damn amazing. Given that the It has been long since i visited the fantasy genre, got turned off of it thanks to JK Rowling infinitt the steaming pile of sanedrson shit she called “the deathly hallows” But i played Infinity Blade on the iPhone which almost seems open ended and storyless – like an RPG version Punch-Out, but the comparison is just the gameplay, one-on-one arcade style fighter.
