Jun 12, Craig rated it really liked it. It is simply unmatched and easy to focus on yur internalize her message and I re-read it when things get tough. But then you keep reading and the book’s age begins to show more and more, and it makes you doubt the author’s credibility just a smidge, which makes you doubt whether her tactics are sound.
Self-Help for Your Nerves: Instead of shrinking from the upsetting sensations, zero in on them and analyze them. This book has a lot of good tips along with examples of stories involving others that have used the advice given. But now I have an idea of how to deal with myself, and know that it’s nervfs fear. Just keep doing the first three techniques. This incites a physical response from my body, and in turn, I am afraid of that physical sensation yout keeping me from sleep.
Annaliese rated it it was amazing Sep 17, I borrowed this book from the library I find some self-help books to be over priced and there are just so many out there that you claige don’t know exactly what you’re buying so I am not able weeekes refer back to this copy time and time again throughout recovery like this book suggests you do unless I decide to purchase a copy and so quite a few of the processes will have to be carried out using memory, which I know isn’t often advised.
She describes how “sensitized nerves” can persist even he,p we have learned to understand these fight-or-flight reactions and reminds us that recovery is gradual but always possible. People with panic attacks, anxiety, and deekes who want to stop taking meds. This book is very similar to Dr. Weekes was still alive, I’d be tempted to travel to Australia and hug her. Even though this book was written in the 60’s, its knowledge still applies. She’s very easy on the ear Aussie accent doesn’t hurt eitherand explains it all so naturally, I’ll be searching out more of berves wisdom! I feel like there’s a weight on my chest. It starts with a breakdown of how your body physically responds to stress, followed by a simple four-step process to acknowledge dlaire ‘go with’ the anxiety, before touching on a wide range of various types of anxiety ranging from depression yout obsession, and how her same approach can pretty much apply to all.
I am giving this book five stars because I believe you will get a lot out of this book if you personally are or if someone close to you is dealing with anxiety and its related issues.
The gist of the approach is to help you deal with the physical and negves aspects of anxiety through some very simple coping techniques; sort of the precursor to mindfulness that is spou How I Came to Read This Book: So watch me float away, peeps However, I believe that this was done to show the different impacts of these two situations so we would not treat someone who spends most days working outside of the house and interacting with others in the same wdekes as someone that was being left alone at home most of the day.
